Carol and Dennis Breck live in a beautiful home on the bluffs west of Yankton overlooking Lewis & Clark Lake and every year about this time they transform their private oasis into a Christmas paradise.

The Brecks have collected hundreds of wonderful Christmas items including Santa figurines of every size and form imaginable.

When you walk into their home you are greeted by hundreds of familiar faces - Santa Claus’s faces. He is smiling, laughing, carrying a Christmas tree, dancing, smoking a pipe. There are Santas in miniature, almost life-size Santas, cookie jar Santas, portraits of Santa.

Carol said the couple has been collecting Santa figurines for years and enjoys finding Santas from different cultures.

They often pick up Christmas items when they travel. In addition to Santas, the Brecks collect Nutcrackers and Christmas tree ornaments from places they travel with family and friends.

The Brecks said they enjoy decorating their home with the pieces they have picked up on vacations because those pieces bring back specific memories from their trips and of their families.

In addition to the items they have specifically bought, they have received many items as gifts and/or as family heirlooms.

This particular year the Brecks decorated their tree and table in a nautical theme — a common theme throughout their home. Their daughter created the table decorations, greenery and wreaths that adorn their home. The pieces feature the classic pinecones, evergreen sprays, gold and blue Christmas ornaments and holly berries. What makes them completely unique is the addition of pearls, seashells and starfish. Their Christmas tree even features a swatch of netting reminiscent of fishing nets.

The Brecks are definitely living in a Christmas paradise at least for a couple months a year.
