Cheers To 2019!

In giving thought to what I’d like to share with you in this January/February issue of course the New Year came to mind. It made me think of how certain things change depending on the age we are at the time.

As a child I don’t recall giving much thought to the New Year. Of course, leading up to it…Christmas, was definitely top of mind.

However, December 31 and January 1 were not really something I recall giving much thought to. My parents never really went out so it always seemed like “life as usual” in our household.

Of course as I got older and in high school and then college the New Year’s Eve celebrations brought a totally different meaning. However, it was never that big of deal then either.

It seems like when I started having children is when I wanted to make it a fun celebration time for them. My Mother had a set of bells on a leather cord that she would bring over and at the stroke of midnight the kids, Mom and I would hustle out on the front step and shake those bells like crazy and toot our horns. Then we’d go to bed to wake up to the New Year.

Over the last few years there have been occasions where we’ve gone out for dinner or to a New Year’s celebration at one of our local establishments but now that we are ‘older’…like this year, we just made a pizza and watched a movie. Quite honestly we didn’t even stay awake long enough to watch the ball drop. Oh well…maybe next year…lol!

There are so many things to look forward to in a new year and this year for me has quite a few things but the three that stand out are:

#1 – our fifth grandchild will be born!! Hurray, can’t wait!

#2 – my 45th class reunion in good old Rock Rapids, IA. Looking forward to seeing my classmates.

#3 – the family reunion on my Mother’s side. It’s been quite a few years since we’ve been able to make it so I’m anxious to see my Aunt Alice (Mom’s only living sibling) and all of the cousins etc.

I know there are so very many more but these are the three that stand out right now…especially the new grandbaby!

Happy New Year to you all and my sincere wishes for a year filled with blessings, love and more!
