Ever heard of a Pink Lady?
And no I’m not talking about the characters from the movie “Grease.”
The Yankton Pink Ladies are the new ladies dart league that was created this past fall through the assistance of TNT Enterprises, Inc., in Wagner.
Eleven teams signed up to participate in the doubles matches.
The primary mission of the league is to raise awareness and funds for cancer research.
Originally created for breast cancer awareness, the focus quickly turned to all forms of cancer because so many of the women have had their lives touched by cancer.
The money raised by the women through their Sunday matches, and from collection buckets placed around Yankton, will be donated to the American Cancer Society in South Dakota. In their first two months of playing, the Yankton Pink Ladies have raised more than $400, and money is still coming in.
“The ladies decided to donate the money to the American Cancer Society in South Dakota because the money would stay in the state and Yankton. They are all about Yankton,” said Randy Oliver, public relations representative with TNT Enterprises.
According to Oliver, awareness of the league has really grown. Pool players and other dart players in Yankton are asking about the ladies in pink, creating curiosity and generating dollars.
“I have been asked questions by other operators and players across the state about the league. The Yankton Pink Ladies league is the beginning of a great thing for everyone,” adds Oliver.
The hope is that more leagues will be created around the state — and maybe the nation.
League action will continue through the first part of February.
